Description: A basic purpose of the Ministry is to promote and support
Agricultural Development in Guyana.
Services and Activities: The office provides information on the climate
and water resources of Guyana to aeronautical, water, agriculture, mining, fishing,

Areas of Concentration: Integrated meteorological watch, water resource

Description: The National Drainage and Irrigation Board is responsible for all
the drainage and irrigation structures, water ways, conservancies, etc.
Services and Activities: The Board is in charge of rehabilitating the drainage
and irrigation structures and managing water resources.

existing drainage and irrigation systems.

Description: The Georgetown Sewerage and Water Commission is responsible
for providing water and sewerage services to the residents of the city and its
immediate environs. Services and Activities: From its numerous wells and canals,
the GSWC pumps water to residential households, commercial enterprises and public
standpipes. It is also responsible for servicing the sewerage system which serves
residents in the city of Georgetown.

Description: The Guyana Water Authority is responsible for ensuring
adequate supplies of water throughout the whole of Guyana, except the city of
Georgetown.
Services and Activities: GUYWA plans and implements programs and projects
for increasing the supply and distribution of water, including pre-feasibility
studies relating thereto, maintains and repairs numerous pumping stations throughout
the country and ensures adequate supplies of water to different regions.

Description: The Guyana Sugar Corporation is the country's largest
producer of sugarcane and manufacturer of sugar. In order to facilitate the
planting and harvesting of the crop, the company has developed one of the most
remarkable drainage and irrigation systems, as well as canals, along which the
harvested cane is transported to its factories/refineries.
Services and Activities: The drainage and irrigation section of GUYSUCO
is responsible for ensuring, among other things, that adequate supplies of water
are available for the planting, nourishment and harvesting of cane.

Description: The main task of the Agency is to plan the development,
exploitation and management of natural resources so as to ensure the people
of Guyana the minimum benefits therefrom.

matters relating to planning and exploitation of hydro-electric resources of
Guyana and on any multi-purpose aspect of any scheme involving the hydraulic
generation of power.
